The book is an interesting read and while all books that cover historical events and the subject of "evil" is going to be subjected to the author's point of view, this one seems to go even beyond the norm in that regard.For example, in the final chapter the author is very critical of Captain Stanley Lord, the captain of the ship that could have saved most if not all of the passengers of the Titanic. My problem with such of an assertion is that it is not only quite possible but probable that Captain Lord was unaware of the specific events or their implications. And while the author can certainly contend that the Captain "should have known" and argue that he was derelict in his duties to not investigate - that is quite a bit different than knowingly allowing 1500+ people to drown, and certainly less evil than the likes of Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, Vlad the Impaler, and others that Captain Lord is associated with by the author. I understand that the author wished to make a point regarding "evil by doing nothing" but, does not evil require at the least a conscious act to be made with full knowledge of the implications?
Secondly, there are a few incorrect facts in places, but such things happen. More disturbing are the ways some of the facts are presented. It is expected in any book of this type to be colored by the authors bias, but some of it is rather jarring. For example, in the chapter devoted to John Wilkes Booth - he called the execution of John Brown a "political assassination". Doubtless, few people would defend slavery - but, John Brown's method of overthrowing it was leading a revolt against the State and killing innocent civilians who hindered them. After he was captured, he was tried for treason and executed - something that is expected when you try and overthrow the government. Hero or villain, Brown tried to overthrow the government and killed several innocent people in the process. He was caught in the act, never denied his deeds, was given a fair trial and executed. Calling such a legal process a "political assassination" is ridiculous and offensive.
If you can ignore such things, the book is interesting and well worth the purchase price.

Good reading.
I enjoy true crime books and have read many and yet this one had several evil people I had not heard about and more information about others. Yes it is disturbing to read what people are capable of but still very fascinating.
Interesting and informative. As a person with and interest in serial killers and other strange behavior caused by mental illness and the influnce of people over a child's emotional development. Serials killers are created not born.
This book definitely worth the purchase price. It covers quite a bit. My only complaint is that it drags on in parts and starts to read like a history text book in others. There are quite a few typos as well, which can be distracting, but otherwise, it's a good read.
The title of the book is somewhat of a misnomer. Whereas, any such list of the most (fill in blank)is always going to be very subjective, this book includes people who are not actually considered to be evil, even by the author.
Persons who are not actually evil include those who were intensely disliked by a population for a time, or people who simply engaged in bad behaviour. While I think is the book's major flaw, the author does make a succinctly compelling case for why each of these particular people were on his list, making for a quite an interesting read.
Scary to know that there were enough people in the world to have a book written. The atrocities again humanity is so evident, From the serial killers to the mass murders, you see inside a black heart and ruthless demeanor. I rated this a 5 not that I like the subject matter, but was able to glimpse inside their lives to see maybe how they became this way. From Caligula, to hitler to people in the 21st century. We get a glimpse of horror. Great job
